John C. Dvorak (of dvorak.org/blog — enjoy the drink) clearly has it out for the iPhone, first with his statement suggesting Apple should pull the plug on the geek gadget of all time, and now when he got some “inside information” from a Cingular rep. According to Dvorak, via the rep who’s testing the device, [...]

Nestled up here near the Canadian border, we are finally starting to see signs of spring. The snow has all melted. Green is starting to be seen in the grass. Buds are appearing on the trees. Temps have been up in the 50s Fahrenheit. We are seeing our neighbors outside again. All is good.BUT... just to make sure we remember that we are in fact this far North, the weather reports say that we may get 6 inches of snow tonight! (Hopefully not more than that as I already put away the snowblower and shovelling a lot of wet snow is NOT fun!)I guess the good news is that Friday is a holiday, so maybe there is a chance for one last day of skiing! :-)

So Apple and EMI have announced that the EMI songs sold on iTunes will be available without copy protection starting next month. The right move, and a good business one for Apple as it will allow people to buy tunes and play them on any hardware that can handle AAC.This was triggered by a Steve Jobs essay a couple of months ago that eloquently argued against DRM, and basically set out Apple's (the dominant player in this market: they have sold 2 and a half billion songs on iTunes so far) stall as being against copy protection on downloaded music. After all, if CDs are not protected, why should downloads be?
