Well, The Who wasn't talking about an airplane in that part of "Who Are You" (known now to CSI fans), but I can share the sentiment. The flight to Cairo comes in around 11 hours.... long time to be stuck in a metal tube. Hopefully I will just be able to sleep. We will see.The flight back actually is longer.... must be headwinds, as it clocks in at about 12.5 hours (of course, 1 hour of that could just be circling at JFK :-). In any event, all looks good for boarding to begin in just a few minutes. (At which point this CDMA blackberry becomes a very expensive plastic brick. Time to switch to the GSM cell phone.)

No joke! When our little Dash-8 turboprop arrived in La Guardia and taxiied to a gate, they went to open the door... and found it couldn't go all the way to the ground because a pile of snow was blocking the door! By this time, the engines had been shut down so it wasn't possible for the pilots just to move the plane forward about 10 feet. Instead we had to wait while they called for someone to come out with a snow shovel. Of course, this being an airport, how often do they really need snow shovels? So it was about 10 minutes later when 4 guys came over with a shovel and 3 ice choppers. They had it cleared quickly while those of inside just kind of laughed at the lunacy of it all. So I'm not in Cairo yet. You see, there was this little "nor'easter" storm on Friday and Saturday that pretty much shut down most all air traffic in the northeast USA. Here in the northwest corner of Vermont, it turned out to be a beautiful thing for ski areas... we got about 12-14 inches of beautiful fresh snow here in Burlington. But down in New York, they got the wonderful sleet, freezing rain, ice crap that is just absolutely horrid. And you obviously can't fly in it. So needless to say, my flight into JFK on Friday was cancelled along with pretty much all the other ones. I never did find out if the Air Egypt flight I was to be on Friday night ever left... I would bet NOT, but I don't know.Since no flights were available into JFK yesterday, I'm goi[...]
