Aikido, Retreat or War? Are you an Ostrich or a Ninja? What's Your Exit Strategy?

Blogged From at 07. Apr 2007 01:13 under Object, Object

Well, my friend Alec Saunders has done it again, giving us another weighty post to wrap our heads around. This one isn't a "manifesto," but nonetheless, Alec raises some really vital points for anyone playing in the unified communications space. And his thoughts on Microsoft lead me off into some tangential, but pertinent thoughts of my own.Note: Sometimes I wonder if Alec tackles things like this just to drive us all to think and post. Sometimes he makes my head hurt.Aikido, Retreat or War. What’s your Microsoft strategy? One of the more interesting trajectories to watch in the communications space over the last decade has been the growth of the Microsoft ecosystem. Literally a decade long strategy, it was conceived at the time that I ran the Windows CE pl[...]

What is the future of Ad Exchanges

Blogged From Om Malik at 06. Apr 2007 16:33 under Web, doubleclick, ebay, EchoStar, google, microsoft, wunderloop

Suddenly ad exchanges are HOT. DoubleClick, earlier this month announced that it is setting up an ad-exchange, close on the heels of WunderLOOP, which had announced its own exchange, WunderLOOP Connect in mid-March. Even Google embarked on a little TV-ad experiment with EchoStar that essentially points to a future online ad-exchange. The growing interest in [...]

Microsoft to add baby pink and watermelon red to the Zune

Blogged From flung at 06. Apr 2007 09:58 under Microsoft Zune

Not satisified with the current color selection of the Zune? The brown isn’t exactly appealing you say? Well Microsoft plans on releasing two new colors to the media player this year. The first one will be a baby pink colored Zune due out next month and pictured above. Later on in the summer, Microsoft [...]

London Wiki Wednesday 4 April at Microsoft

Blogged From David Terrar at 05. Apr 2007 12:35 under Web 2.0, Wikis, Social Software

Yesterday we held the second of the revamped London Wiki Wednesdays at Microsoft’s Great Pulteney Street office, in a swimming pool. For some strange reason, the office building had a swimming pool which Microsoft converted in to a meeting room. It was slightly surreal sitting within the pool itself expecting someone to turn on the [...]

Old Man Winter may not be done with us yet...

Blogged From at 04. Apr 2007 23:57

Nestled up here near the Canadian border, we are finally starting to see signs of spring. The snow has all melted. Green is starting to be seen in the grass. Buds are appearing on the trees. Temps have been up in the 50s Fahrenheit. We are seeing our neighbors outside again. All is good.BUT... just to make sure we remember that we are in fact this far North, the weather reports say that we may get 6 inches of snow tonight! (Hopefully not more than that as I already put away the snowblower and shovelling a lot of wet snow is NOT fun!)I guess the good news is that Friday is a holiday, so maybe there is a chance for one last day of skiing! :-)

Microsoft plans new Zune campaign, color

Blogged From at 04. Apr 2007 22:00

No, this isn't the new Zune ad campaign. It was a Seattle retailer's outdoor sign shortly after the music player launched. Microsoft is hoping to recapture some of that initial buzz.Microsoft is preparing a new advertising campaign for the Zune, and a company representative confirmed via e-mail today that it will launch a limited edition, "soft pink" version of the music device in late spring, through standard retail channels. The pink Zune wasn't exactly a secret: Amazon.com has had it available for pre-order for several days.

'Vista Capable': Why PC makers weren't sued

Blogged From at 04. Apr 2007 20:18

Since news broke of the "Windows Vista Capable" suit against Microsoft, one question I've been getting via e-mail and seeing in the comments is why the computer makers weren't sued in addition to or instead of Microsoft. I followed up this morning with one of the lawyers for the plaintiff, Michael Rosenberger of Seattle law firm Gordon Murray Tilden, to ask that question. Here's what he said:

Why did it take so long to patch Windows flaw?

Blogged From at 04. Apr 2007 19:41

The patch was released yesterday for the high-profile Windows Animated Cursor vulnerability, and in a blog post at the end of the day, Microsoft's Security Response Center sought to answer lingering questions about the steps the company took to create the fix, and why it took three months to complete and release. It remains to be seen whether people will be satisfied with the explanation, but it's nonetheless an interesting glimpse into the process.

UK advertising authority nixes Xbox 360 spot

Blogged From at 04. Apr 2007 17:51

The UK's Advertising Standards Authority, an industry self-policing group, has ruled that an ad for Microsoft's Xbox 360 is out of bounds and can't be aired there again. Click here for the text of the ruling. Here's how the ASA describes the ad:
