Joan of Arc Relics Are Actually Egypt Mummy Remains

Blogged From at 06. Apr 2007 16:26 under Object, Object, Object, Object

National GeographicWow I’m impressed, this is the first time discovering that a relic is proven even older than expected but is still considered to have lost its value. Apparently some chemist or pharmacist in the middle of the 19th century thought it’d be really cool to burn a little some mummy and pretend its Jeanne d’arc’s remains… I mean imagine their faces when they notice it’s fake! HahahahaWell not only no one noticed it’s fake but even the Church itself took believed it and declared it as genuine! My god, this dude must’ve laughed his ass out, not to mention that he made lots of money. But if this proves anything it proves how valueless the mummies were at that time, in fact there were so many of them and no one knew what to do with th[...]

Astrographics

I'm posting this link mainly for vindication purposes. I used the word proboscis in a sentence and was challenged for it being a valid word. I spelled it wrong when I tried to look it up (probuscis? proboscus?), and eventually just called the debate a draw. I'm also posting this because it's a great gallery on a site with a lot of great galleries. Link: Microscopic World Link: Astrographicsread more

Pork + Coke = Worms ?

Blogged From Doraemon at 06. Apr 2007 06:26 under Science

Is it true that pork contains worms? You can try to pour the coke on a raw of pork and see if the worms crawl out. You have to wait for few minutes. I wonder if that is true or not. But i don’t want to try it. Anyone tried it before? Tell us [...]

eWaste clogging your closet?

Blogged From Saskboy at 05. Apr 2007 23:10 under Saskatchewan, news, politics, science, computer, television

If you’ve ever purchased a computer (and odds are very good that you have), you may have an old monitor sitting in the corner of a closet. It probably still works, but is too small and old for people to really want to use it anymore. We can’t throw it into the dumpster, because that [...]

How you know a pundit doesn’t have a response, Creationist edition

Blogged From Evil Bender at 05. Apr 2007 19:12 under constiutional issues, wingnuts, Origins, Science, News and politics

PZ goes into the Anderson Cooper coverage of the Ken Ham “T-Rex was a vegetarian” Creationist museum. Naturally, the show seems to have given religious pseudoscience a nearly complete free pass. But since PZ deals with it so well, I’d like to focus on just one segment: ROBERT BOSTON: And one of the important things we [...]

Less like moderating than refereeing

Blogged From Paul Raven at 05. Apr 2007 18:52 under Science Fiction, General, Eastercon

Looks like my first stint as a panel moderator will be rather more challenging than I expected. Let’s see … First Jetse came out in defence of short reviews. Then Niall took him to task for it (and generated a, shall we say, lively comments thread). Then Jonathan put in his two pence (generating another busy comments thread that [...]

If one more person asks me…
