Product of American Education

Blogged From at 31. Mar 2007 18:31 under Pedagogy and Adult Education

Education includes more than formal, kindergarten to grade 12 and post-secondary education. Education is little-p political, seeking to impose a particular form of mental discipline and assert a particular agenda of power relationships. Ideally, at least in my book, the result of systems of education is the type of enlightened and emancipated society in which we all can live, thrive, and be fulfilled and happy. Then again, there are people with other agendas, especially when it comes to science. It's the guy's sincerity that makes this snort-out-your-nose funny.[Technorati tags: evolution | creationism | peanut butter | education]

Bump on the Blog: Episode 4 – Wikipedia and 21st Century Skills

Blogged From Brian at 30. Mar 2007 23:15 under education, wiki, educast

This educast is a recording of a discussion the took place during a Wiki in the Classroom workshop for K-12 educators. It is always interesting to learn about other peopleÂÂÂ’s views on topics like Wikipedia and 21st Century skills. I have to admit that I was taken by surprise when one teacher [...]

If it can be pawed, my cats will poop in it.

My deck is beautiful today. Yesterday, we went to Lowe's and bought bedding flowers and now all the planters are full of blooming wonder and it smells great, over at the far end of the deck. The whole deck is beautiful, but that far end is a little more beautiful, besides smelling better.I got multi-colors this year, because flowers, like people, are better when they're all mixed together. Somehow, each one stands out more, when everything around them is diverse. No, no lesson today. Heh.I'd take a picture of my beautiful colorful sweet-smelling summertime deck and post it here, but I can't. Not yet.First, I have to somehow get rid of this pile of spilled charcoal and dust, and I can't clean it up yet because the cats pooped all over it ("Thank you for the[...]

Mob Emerges Victorious at Columbia

Blogged From Evan Coyne Maloney at 30. Mar 2007 19:46 under All Posts, Politics, Society & Culture, Higher Education, Immigration Policy, Education, Political Correctness, Updates

It’s official: just as I suspected, a student mob that stormed the stage and shut down a speech sponsored by the College Republicans has emerged victorious, earning what Columbia’s student newspaper calls “a slap on the wrist.” It’s yet another defeat for free thought and free speech on college campuses. The university has given a wink [...]

One Day University

Blogged From Elizabeth at 30. Mar 2007 16:00 under Education, One Day University, sandwich generation

With all the talk about brain stimulation to reduce the risk of dementia, I think going back to college would give you a pretty good mental workout. But, I’m guessing not many people have the time or the money to go back. Enter One Day University, a day long seminar that brings the best Ivy League professors [...]

Why I did a PhD

Blogged From Cat at 30. Mar 2007 15:37 under Education, Personal

I did a PhD because I was bored as an assistant lab technician in the local agricultural college. The PhD fellowship was tax free and so I worked out I would be as well off as in “paid” employment and I would gain a PhD at the end of it. Fortunately, I landed on my [...]

Tonight we go to a Middle School orientation. The school will explain the educational and social plan they have for the kids. And while the presentation is supposed to be the same at each of the counties’ middle schools, we are going to this one and one at another school next week so we can [...]
