…at under 15 meters with a Custom 98 using a full gas bottle designed for an electronic marker. Hit me square in the middle of my forehead. Not fun. Ref’ed at the field and practiced with some mates in the afternoon. I managed to get to the snake in the second warm up game off [...]

Bloggers, I am posting this from a different location - my parents’ house, to be precise - as we have come back to the East coast for the weekend. We left in such a rush yesterday that I didn’t even have the time to leave a note here to inform you all of my absence. [...]

Holy Week is the time of the year when I most miss being Roman Catholic*. And if I were still Roman Catholic, I’d probably be a “Neo Cath. (I miss it so much that I still celebrate Lent by giving up some thing that I enjoy. This year it was alcohol. Perhaps I should have taken a lesson from The Anchoress. But I digress.) Such an admission usually earns me the disapproval of my Reformed brethren. They usually poo-poo what they call the “bells, smells and rigamarole. I miss the solemnities involved in the observances of Holy Week.My Reformed brethren talk of not observing anything not commanded in Scripture. (The wisest of them more correctly talk about not requiring the observance of anything not commanded in Scripture.) But there is som[...]

As it turns out I left the recovery program unable to fulfill a consequence, one completely unrelated and illogical, of not being allowed to have contact with my daughter. She is in recovery as well. We both work our own programs. At that I am now sleeping on the floor of a relatives home until I can [...]

Going to the Cherry Blossom Festival tomorrow? The weather forecast predicts a 40% chance of snow and a high of 45 degrees. If that doesn’t sound appealing to you, take comfort in the fact that I’ll be enjoying the wintry spring weather barefoot and in a robe, taking part in a 30 minute aikido demonstration. I [...]

I just read this article about John McCain’s recent trip to Iraq, and wanted to point out one of the most awesomely written paragraphs I have read in a long while: Translated into mathematical terms, McCain’s walk was Pythagorean in scope, squared hypocrisy added to squared idiocy equaling squared disgrace. In political [...]

We have those blocks (on top) and let me tell you they are FANtastic. They're incredibly durable, colorful, beautifully illustrated and since they nest, they take up next to no storage space. They may just be the perfect toy.

It can take a while, but he'll get over it . . .Sorry I've been so silent 'round the 'sphere y'all. I've saved a few drafts but have mostly been bouncing some things around up in me ol' silly noggin'. Plus the new shuffle and some paperback SF pulp have lent pleasantly to some of the normal, more irritating preoccupations of that organ. Inquiries are appreciated muchly, but I'm fine. Really. And I promise to be comin' around again.L8{-;

Good FridayToday is Good Friday. It is the day we Christian honor the Crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. We consider Christ to have given up his life voluntarily as an act of loving sacrifice to atone for our sins. Christ’s resurrection on the third day is considered conquering death itself. Beautiful thoughts, really, and often lost in the commercialism of the holiday. We have a tendency to make our religious holidays secular and our secular holidays religious. I chalk it up to the idea that humanity as an aggregate cannot do anything right to save their souls. Not that I am innocent. I used to look forward to an Easter basket from the Bunny every year. For whatever reason, Easter candy was always better than Halloween candy to me, too. Lots[...]
