Ranger sergeant calls Neal Boortz show

Blogged From at 10. Apr 2007 04:05 under Object, Object, Object

There was a searing phone call to the Neal Boortz show today. An Army Ranger sergeant called up to urge him to pressure Congress to continue the Iraq mission. The sergeant had spent 21 months in Iraq, training Iraqi forces and combatting insurgents & al-Qaeda. The man made an absolutely impassioned appeal for support. "I'm a Ranger! I do not fail!" He spelled out what's going on over there, why we're over there, as simply and powerfully as I've ever heard it. He nearly worked himself into tears, so complete was his dedication to his mission. Boortz, who has little tolerance for run-on callers, let him go on, and barely said a word. I've never heard him defer to a caller like that before.Boortz doesn't put audio of phone calls on his website, but he d[...]

Sadr urges Mahdi Army to fight US Troops

Blogged From DiscerningTexan at 09. Apr 2007 16:46 under War strategy, Iran, Iraq, al-Sadr

Moqtada al-Sadr can see the writing on the wall: as a result of the "surge" (and of his meetings with his puppeteers in Iran) Sadr is now calling for the Shiite Mahdi militia to escalate violence against American and Sunni civilian targets in Iraq. He knows his power base is starting to crumble under Petreaus' new strategy and so Sadr had now gone officially on the record as to his intentions. It is now imperative that Iraq not in any way constrain our efforts to defeat and disarm this militia--which it has done in the past. We are about to find out if the Iraqis are really serious about "playing ball."Game on.

al-Sadr Stirring Up Trouble, Again

Blogged From at 09. Apr 2007 14:27 under Object, Object, Object

There are times when I do wonder why we are in Iraq, as there is a very vocal segment of the population that is so firmly against us, making the task of helping the majority of Iraqis achieve a true democracy daunting. From FoxNews: Tens of thousands marched through the streets of two Shiite holy cities Monday to mark the fourth anniversary of Baghdad's fall. The rally was called for by powerful Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, who commands an enormous following among Iraq's majority Shiites and has close allies in the Shiite-dominated government. A day earlier, the renegade cleric issued a statement ordering his militiamen to redouble their battle to oust American forces and argued that Iraq's army and police should join him in defeating "your archenemy." M[...]

Want more war? Vote McCain

Blogged From at 09. Apr 2007 02:21 under Object, Object, Object, Object

If you still harbored any doubts that McCain's candidacy is toast, his op-ed in the Washington Post should remove those. Poor old Johnny just doesn't get it. Running on a more war platform is not going to cut it. The op-ed is simply pathetic in the depth of its cluelessness. Just looking at the high points, of course he had to address his disastrous presser at the Baghdad market. Today the market still faces occasional sniper attacks, but it is safer than it used to be. One innovation of the new strategy is closing markets to vehicles, thereby precluding car bombs that kill so many and garner so much media attention. Petraeus understandably wanted us to see this development. We all understandably wanted to see this development. Perhaps McCain just didn't see[...]

When the Truth is “Too Positive for the BBC

Blogged From Evan Coyne Maloney at 09. Apr 2007 00:15 under All Posts, Media, World Affairs, Iraq, Establishment Media, BBC

London’s Telegraph reports on more bias at the BBC: Amid the deaths and the grim daily struggle bravely borne by Britain’s forces in southern Iraq, one tale of heroism stands out. Private Johnson Beharry’s courage in rescuing an ambushed foot patrol then, in a second act, saving his vehicle’s crew despite his own terrible injuries earned him [...]

Shock of the Day: Lefty blogs siding with Ahmadinejad and Iranians against US

Blogged From DiscerningTexan at 08. Apr 2007 21:57 under Nutroots, The Left, Iran, Iraq, America War Support

Big Surprise: the nutroots hate America more than its enemies--who are busy plotting how to kill its sons and daughters.

Sadr's Pronouncement in Najaf

Blogged From at 08. Apr 2007 18:00 under Object, Object, Object, Object

The Associated Press is reporting that Moqutada Sadr has issued a statement to his followers that encourages active combat operations against the foreign military forces in Iraq. ""You, the Iraqi army and police forces, don't walk alongside the occupiers, because they are your archenemy," the statement said. Its authenticity could not be verified......"God has ordered you to be patient in front of your enemy, and unify your efforts against them — not against the sons of Iraq,"This statement could be an innoculous statement reflecting the widespread sentiment among both the Sunni Arab and the Shi'ite Arab populations that attacks against US and UK forces are acceptable. In this case the JAM [formerly known as the Mahdi Army] will continue to do what they h[...]

McCain’s Sugar Coated Iraq Delusion

Blogged From Pamela Leavey at 08. Apr 2007 15:53 under OP/ED's, In The News, Senate, Republicans, Bush/Bush Admin, Iraq, Politics, Election '08, Foreign Policy, John McCain '08

John McCain has drank so deep from the Bush KoolAid that he’s truly become delusional from the massive sugar rush. In an OP/ED in today’s WaPo, McCain coats his vision of Iraq with his desperate bid to save his ‘08 presidential candidacy based on Bush’s war. I just returned from my fifth visit to Iraq [...]

Sadr Orders Attacks on US Forces

Blogged From Dr. Steven Taylor at 08. Apr 2007 15:47 under Iraq

Via the AP: al-Sadr calls for attacks on U.S. troops The renegade cleric Muqtada al-Sadr urged Iraqi forces to stop cooperating with the United States and told his guerrilla fighters to concentrate their attacks on American troops rather than Iraqis, according to a statement issued Sunday. The statement, stamped with al-Sadr’s official seal, was distributed in [...]

Would The Enemy Follow Us Here?

Blogged From Pamela Leavey at 08. Apr 2007 07:34 under In The News, Bush/Bush Admin, Iraq, National Security, Politics, International, Military

Bush loves to proclaim we’re fighting them over there so they don’t follow us here. But the question is, would they really follow us here? Probably not… Bush’s favorite line, which he “repeated Wednesday in a speech to troops at California’s Fort Irwin, suggests a chilling picture of warfare on American streets.” William Douglas asks [...]
