On the road through Easter

Blogged From Saskboy at 10. Apr 2007 03:26 under Saskatchewan, movies, news, science, travel, computer

Thursday I went to Regina where Ashley and I ate super at India House, where we barely made it in time to finish our supper before they were closing. The food was fantastic as usual, and we made sure to have leftovers. The weather was unusually cold for April, and it stayed that way through [...]

obligatory grindhouse post

Blogged From at 09. Apr 2007 19:08 under scala, movies, grindhouses i have known, cinema, london, film nerds

What bugs me about all these Grindhouse reviews is the smirking old-timer nudges and grins from "critics" who want to let on they know all about grindhouse cinemas and spent their youth watching 24-hour Bolivian zombie fests in the sticky carpeted company of junkies, one-leged nymphomaniacs, transvestite hookers and the familiar like... when you know damn well they're the kind of ninnies who would complain to their auntie if their press pass from Mustache Mug Monthly didn't get them the best seat and a complimentary Kiora at the SuperMegaPlex.Which makes this piece in Sunday's Observer interesting:British audiences for Grindhouse will inevitably experience the film's nostalgia for such viewing experiences at one remove, since this country never really had i[...]

Movie: Shooter

Blogged From John Roberts at 09. Apr 2007 06:24 under Everything, Movies

Shooter was exactly what I expected last night. Nothing more, nothing less…so I was entertained. Metacritic shows a 53. I suppose your standard “lone hero against the conspiracy” movie doesn’t excite anyone any more. But telling a genre tale well isn’t a terrible thing. Shooter felt like a mix of a Tom Clancy movie (pretty [...]

Movie: 300

Blogged From John Roberts at 09. Apr 2007 06:03 under Everything, Movies

Writing of comics, I finally got to see 300 last Tuesday. Another Frank Miller comic book made into a movie, 300 feels like a great graphic novel. Not having read the graphic novel, I don’t know if it’s great or not, but Frank Miller is a sign of quality. The movie’s story isn’t fantastic, but it’s [...]

Isn't it Ironic

Blogged From at 07. Apr 2007 01:33 under Music

I don't like Alanis Morissette, and I don't like the Black Eyed Peas, but, somehow, when you put them together, it spawns something I do like: this absolutely bizarre video featuring the crap-fest that is Morisette's style and the nonsensical lyrics of the Black Eyed Peas. I present to you, Alanis Morisette singing My Humps:Via Table of Malcontents

Dumb Kids

Blogged From at 07. Apr 2007 00:11

So a bunch of bitchy kids went to see The Last Mimzy with their parents and the theater thought that it would be more fun to show The Hills Have Eyes 2. I guess the first scene in Hills is of some naked broad chained up giving birth to a mutant kid. Ha. Oh yeah and that happens before the credits so there wasn't any warning. Awesome. I hope the kids can't sleep for a year. Via Cinematical

Happy Feet, meet the Perry Head

Blogged From Chris Carlisle at 06. Apr 2007 19:08 under Movies

I have the day off today for the official company holiday of “Spring Break” (though it coincides with Good Friday each year… no this isn’t going to be a religious vs. secular holiday recognition debate). The wife had some shopping to do this morning so I was on kid duty, meaning we sat around [...]

Jackie Chan Uses Stunt Doubles?

Blogged From Jami at 06. Apr 2007 15:47 under Movies, Rumors, Chop Socky

Stuntman Bruce Law claims that he has doubled for Jackie Chan in a number of Jackie’s Chinese language films. A spokesman for Jackie said that he only resorts to using doubles in Hollywood because of Hollywood’s safety restrictions. The Hollywood bit sounds accurate. Chan has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t like working within the [...]
