I have no artistic talent, and no plans to start drawing or writing comics — even if I were to call them graphic novels. So, why did I just read Making Comics? This broad how-to about how to, yes, make comics caught my eye because the more I do in business, the more I realize [...]

In some aspects, there have been 10 years of thinking going into the ideas behind Vox. This week over in Six Apart News, Anil is talking to a few of the pioneers of blogging and giving some insight into blogging history. He says: BLOG "We’re going to talk about some of the people who’ve been tinkering with blogging and personal social media for a decade. We invite you to think back to 1997, as many of these seminal sites were just getting started, and try to imagine the breadth of changes they brought to the web in the years that followed. The blogosphere was so s[...]

SonyBMG Music Entertainment UK has just announced that starting April 2nd 2007 it will no longer accept demos from new artists on physical formats such as CDs for consideration by the company’s Columbia Records or RCA Records labels. In fact, the only way RCA and Columbia Records UK will accept new music or demo submissions is via Vox! How cool is that?We think it’s very cool to see entertainment companies embracing the multimedia aspect of blogs, and the way that Columbia and RCA UK are embracing Vox is exceptional. They explained it like this: “We don't want demo CD's anymore, that's what part of this is about. It takes ages for you to do, they get lost and it's a waste of plastic. Register your blog and be part of our on-l[...]

Excerpt: Check out this clever way to play Wii Sports (tennis, specifically): Real tennis is emulated through the position of real gamers, a grid on the floor, and a double-sided screen where the net would normally be. There's something very appealing to this brief series of pics posted to Flickr by Mesq. I'd like to see more sheet-thin windows into gamespace--the double-sided aspect is particularly… Tagged: Consoles Design Gaming Handheld Live-Action Mixed Reality Nintendo On the Screen Technology

The Pea Pod Baby Set is all finished! After washing, the yarn turned out super soft and I'm very pleased.Pea Pod Baby Set by Kate GilbertSize 6 needlesRowan DK Wool: 3 balls AvocadoStarted: March 23, 2007Finished: April 3, 2007I am very happy with the final outcome, but I had a hard time getting into this project for some reason. Maybe I just don't like deadlines that don't have to do with design projects? I don't know. But for such a small project, the knitting sometimes almost drove me up a wall. This coming from the girl that thinks a Stockinette Stitch garment on size 2 needles is a good idea!So now I can get back to the "Design Inspiration" project, which has hit a snag for the past 2 weeks or so. I did something when increasing in pattern on t[...]

The recent trend of companies with classic logo designs poorly re-branding themselves has hit the Dallas Independent School District with some “American Idol” style. The district accepted 275 designs from students and staff and then voted upon those designs to give themselves their new identity. I saw the result on Brand New this [...]
